The Deepak Kaushik Lab has been awarded $1,155,150 over five years by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
The funding supports our project titled “EMMPRIN as a Modulator of Immunometabolism in Monocyte-derived Macrophages and Microglia in Multiple Sclerosis.”
Our research will investigate how EMMPRIN regulates immune cell metabolism, specifically focusing on monocyte-derived macrophages and microglia—key players in the immune response within the brain. By understanding these pathways, we aim to identify novel therapeutic targets for multiple sclerosis (MS).
This award is part of nearly $5 million in CIHR funding allocated to Memorial University researchers working on innovative health-related projects.
“We are excited to continue advancing the understanding of immunometabolism in neuroinflammatory diseases like MS,” says Dr. Deepak Kaushik. “This work has the potential to pave the way for new treatments and improve outcomes for individuals living with MS.”
We thank CIHR and the Government of Canada for their generous support and look forward to sharing updates as our research progresses.
